Meet our Partners | Alice Rich Urban List

Urban List has become the ultimate guide for culture seekers across New Zealand, Australia, and Singapore, offering trusted monthly recommendations to millions. As NZ Editor, Alice Rich curates content highlighting the best of Aotearoa, from local businesses to exciting events, with Urban List’s influence driving millions in consumer spending annually.
In this interview, Alice shares insights into her role and the positive impact Urban List has on the community. She also teases what Alberts members can look forward to at our upcoming Coffee & Toast event, where she’ll be guest-hosting.

Alberts: For those not familiar with Urban List, can you give us an introduction to what you do?

Alice: Urban List is the #1 for culture seekers. We’re an indie media house serving recommendations to over three million readers (and scrollers!) across Aotearoa, Australia, and Singapore. As NZ Editor, I curate our coverage, working closely with an immaculate team of freelancer writers and photographers to spotlight cool people doing cool mahi around Aotearoa.

Alberts: Can you share some of the major highlights or challenges you’ve experienced during your time at Urban List?

Alice: It’s awesome meeting the people behind the events and menus I’ve been covering for the past three and a half years (before becoming Editor I contracted to Urban List as a freelance writer). Just this week I got to interview Michael Meredith and Sid Sahrawat ahead of SERVED by Skycity launching in October. Another major highlight was covering Lift Club’s ethical workout with puppies fundraiser—before we’d picked them up they were struggling to sell tickets but after we gave them a shoutout they sold out. Being able to wield this sort of positive impact for people and businesses is such a gift. And in terms of challenges? To say that the Instagram algorithm is a punisher is a massive understatement.

Alberts: Urban List covers all the latest happenings in Auckland and beyond. What’s currently on your radar to visit or attend?

Alice: SO much. I’m frothing Venue Veterans, a brand new live music series where famous local artists return to the venues that helped to kickstart their careers—it’s all about giving our music industry some extra love. And I go weak at the knees for a creative collab so I’m also amped about Wen & Yen (gluten-free gods) joining forces with Flight Coffee and Sugar Viper tattoo, and Sakura In Bloom a little later on which will see ornate (and damn delicious) Fankery creations paired with Roku Gin cocktails.

Alberts: We’re excited to have you guest host our Coffee & Toast event for Alberts members next month! What are you most looking forward to discussing with our members?

Alice: I’m excited too! I’m here for the stories—your kaupapa, why you’re doing what you’re doing, where you’re headed.

Alberts: Where else can people stay up-to-date with Urban List?

Alice: We’ve got this sleek weekly newsletter called Insiders where I spill all my secrets about the happenings in Tamaki and beyond so that’s a treat. And you can always give us a cheeky follow on socials. You’ll find us on Instagram, Facebook, and Tiktok.
